Razia's Shadow

So recently a friend of mine introduced me to this incredible thing called 'Razia's Shadow'. It's a musical that came out a few years ago, but it was never a real stage production, it was just an album that was released by Forgive Durden. It features vocal artists from popular bands like Panic! at the Disco, and The Dear Hunter. I listened to the music and fell in love. Super weird with a dash of creepy and awesome. Anyways, when I really like something, I inevitably have to draw a picture about it :P So here it is... For some reason when I don't draw realistically, it takes WAY longer than anything else I do! So this took... hours....... ugh....

and then there was TORS...

So, hopefully this will be my last big art dump... whew.... Alright, so these pictures are all based on the novel I am currently undertaking. I don't want to tell you too much of course, cuz when it's published you'll just have to read it for yourself :P
But you know, if you really want a spoiler... then here it is... the book's about a robot.... as if you couldn't tell that already :D
This Tors... I really don't know what else to say there.... haha...ha... done in ink and watercolor
This one is just a character sketch, so ignore the crappy-looking-ness of it... It is a pic of Ann, the professor's daughter. Done with pen and colored pencil.
Lydia Eaton, the professor's wife.
Charles Eaton, the professor. He created Tors. He's holding a pocket watch, btw... it's kinda hard to tell since it is so small...
These are merely a tiny fraction of the hundreds of sketches that I have of this guy.... haha

I decided to have a little fun with the characters and draw them more in a steam-punk style. Tors and Marie.
Yet more sketches...
More of a conceptual pic I did a few years ago. Done in Photoshop.
Another old one, still rather conceptual.
Really old pic... but I dunno, I guess i still like it...
And another old one. This was when I was more into anime type drawings...

And stuff from this year...

So, this is some of my more recent work... All of this has been done in the last 12 months.... I think..... It's funny, I don't realize how much art work I've done until I decide to upload all of it together, it's somewhat overwhelming. And this is only a tiny fraction! I think I counted the other day, I have a total of 28 sketchbooks.... and all of them are full.... It is times like these I realize why I never had much of a social life :P

My lovely younger sister, modeling for me once again. Done with charcoal and pastel.
And here she is yet again :P Done with charcoal.
This one I used myself for the model... but I didn't follow my face exactly, so it doesn't really look like me... Done with (surprise!) charcoal
Okay, so I'm a super nerd for Doctor Who, and I couldn't resist the urge to do a little fanart :D Done in Photoshop.
So some people are just naturally gifted with painting... I am not one of them. This was my pathetic attempt at watercolor.... haha
This is a commission I did for my cousin. Done with charcoal.
Another commission, but for a different person, haha. Charcoal yet again.
And.... another commission... still charcoal
This one is a self portrait... but I'm not terribly fond of it... It is so difficult to draw the face straight on... And my eyes are just... huge.... I don't know why.... done with charcoal and pastel
Sometimes it's a lot of fun to break away from all things realistic and just goof around. So this is me, goofing around, haha. Done with pen, copic marker, and watercolor pencils.
This was a scholarship entry... and alas, I didn't make it... I thought is was super lame.... Done with charcoal and touched up in photoshop.
Here is another commission. Let me just say it now, CARS ARE FREAKING HARD TO DRAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A person? no problem. Any piece of machinery? HUGE PROBLEM. It was quite a relief when I got it finished.... Done with yet more charcoal.

This one was a birthday present to a friend of mine. And guess what?! It was done in charcoal.... Have you guessed it's my favorite medium yet?

AP art

All of these pieces are from my AP art class last year.

This one is a picture that I found of my grandfather pulling my mother and two older sisters on a sled. Granted, this was taken many years ago. Done in charcoal.
This one was incredibly fun. For the assignment, we weren't allowed to use paintbrushes, so I used the stem of the rose that I was using as a model, to paint this picture. Done with watercolor and ink.

It don't really like this one as much... it was the first time I had ever really used acrylic paints so it was a bit of an experiment, haha...
My poor little sister has had to become very patient with me. I use her as a model quite frequently since I lack the means to get real models, haha. She loves it though... maybe... yeah, not really... Done with charcoal.

This picture has a bit of a story with it. Our class was asked to do a service project for a senior citizens center so we went and took pictures of the residents there. (The service project was drawing a picture of them) I chose this old woman because I loved how much character and personality was in her face. I drew the picture from the photograph that we had taken. I was so excited to give it to her, but I found out that she had passed away, soon before I had finished. In the end, I was able to give the picture to her family, as a last memory of her smiling. It was a really incredible experience for me :) Done with toned paper and charcoal.

This picture was done as a gift for my grandmother. My grandpa passed away a few years ago and and I was so happy to do this for her. Done with graphite.

It don't really have any story to go with this one, it was just a picture that I had on my computer, haha. Done with New Pastel and charcoal.

We worked on doing portraits in our class and a friend of mine was kind enough to model for me. Done with toned paper and colored pencil.

This took FOREVER.... like, 9 hours or something (which is longer than I work on any piece, haha )... it was really ridiculous. Remind me to never draw wrinkled paper ever again, haha. Done in graphite.

The Old Stuff... dun dun dunnnnn......

Ah, old artwork... Always a frightening and heartwarming experience. Frightening in that, you once thought it was good and you showed everyone, heartwarming in that you've gotten much better. Lucky for you, I won't show any of the really old stuff.... that's just embarrassing, haha

This one was done in my drawing class when I was a sophomore. Yep, I was so obsessed this movie it was ridiculous, haha. Done in ballpoint pen.

This one was a commission I did when I was a junior. Done with charcoal.

This one was a lot of fun. I mostly use charcoal, but this time I branched out and tried some scratch board, it was so much fun to work with!

Another one from my sophomore class. Done with charcoal.

Hello!

So, I'm about as new to blogging as you can get. I find it really weird and somewhat overwhelming. Here I am, normal college student, trying to earn money for school. And what do I start doing? Blogging, of course. One of the weirdest things to me, is that I could be anyone I want to be. Do I want to show cute little craft things for young moms? Do I want to do more stuff that kids my age would be interested in? Then this novel idea hit me. How about I just be myself? So that's what I decided to do. Here is a little bit about me. Like I said before, I'm a starving college student. I'm working on my art degree so that later in life, I can be a starving old person too! Haha, seriously though... I've decided to pursue the thing I love, even if that means that I won't live in the most financial ease. I think I'd rather be poor and doing something I enjoy, then being rich and hating every moment of it. But, who knows, I'll probably regret that decision later, haha :P

Okay, so, more about me. My favorite medium for art is charcoal. I'm seriously in love the stuff. I kind of feel like art is not nearly as fun when it doesn't make you a complete mess in the process. Besides drawing, however, I have a ton of other interests. I love writing. I'm working on a novel right now, which is so so so much fun! A lot of my art has been inspired by it. (If you ever see the robot guy, that's the main character) I'm kinda, sorta, super duper, not really, totally, but not at all, obsessed with robots. Along with drawing and writing, I'm also very much into drama and acting. I've been in several plays and I find them a total blast. Some of my favorite characters I've portrayed have been Cosette from Les Miserables and an Ugly Stepsister from Roger's and Hammerstein's, Cinderella. (And I'll just pretend that I've spelled everything right.... haha) So along with that, I also like singing and music, although, I'm not really great at it......

Anywho, this blog will mostly be based on art related things, with maybe some writer stuff thrown in there... I guess to start this blog out, I'll post some of my old art stuff!
